The St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ) has established itself
among the world-class chamber ensembles of its generation.
In 1992, they won both the Banff International String Quartet
Competition and Young Concert Artists International Auditions,
launching a performing career that has brought them across North
and South America, Europe and Asia. They appeared in Mill Valley
in 2004, playing the spectacular "The Prayers and Dreams of Issac
the Blind" from their recent recording of the music of Oswaldo
Golijov with clarinetist Todd Palmer. For 2006, the Shostakovich
centenary, their recording of Quartets 3, 7, and 8 was described
as having "impassioned performances full of operatic lyricism and
structural insight." www.slsq.com

For the 75th Anniversary of Marin Music Chest, we are delighted
to have a former MMC winner, Hai-ye Ni, who won at age 13.
She came into prominence via her critically praised New York
debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1991. This noted performance came
as a result of Ms. Ni capturing the first prize at the Naumburg
International Cello Competition, and thus becoming the youngest
recipient to receive this distinguished award. In 1996, Ms. Ni
was the unanimous choice for first prize in the International
Paulo Cello Competition in Finland. Ms. Ni, now principal cellist
of the Philadelphia Orchestra will play a concert of cello and
piano music. www.haiyeni.com
