The Adaskin String Trio is the premiere ensemble of its kind in North America.
Founded in 1994, the trio has performed extensively throughout the United
States and Canada, including performances at Merkin Concert Hall in New
York City, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and in
Montreal, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Boston, Florida,
Oklahoma , and Oregon . In addition, the trios concerts have been
recorded for broadcast by CBC Radio, Radio-Canada, and National Public Radio.
They have become renowned for their interpretations of a vast repertoire ranging from works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert to masterpieces by twentieth century giants such as Heitor Villa-Lobos and Alfred Schnittke. Their commanding performances of rarely heard treasures by composers such as Sergei Taneiev, Lennox Berkeley, and Mikls Rzsa have been revelations to both novice and seasoned chamber music enthusiasts alike. In addition, their work with pianists Sally Pinkas, Sooka Wang, Jamie Parker, and Luiz de Moura Castro has produced spectacular performances of piano quartets by composers such as Mozart, Brahms, Schumann, and Faure. Their concerts with accordion virtuoso Joseph Petric have included tangos by Piazzolla as well as repertoire such as Raymond Luedekes breathtaking Tango Dreams, written especially for their collaboration.
The Adaskin String Trio is named in honor of Murray Adaskin, one of Canada 's most loved and respected composers, and two of his brothers, violinist Harry Adaskin and producer and music educator John Adaskin. The members of the trio met in Montreal where they each studied chamber music with founding Orford Quartet cellist, Marcel Saint-Cyr. They later completed two years as the graduate ensemble-in-residence at The Hartt School, under the guidance of the renowned Emerson Quartet, and in 1998 they were finalists for the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg Foundation chamber music award in New York . In 2003 they released a recording of the complete string trios of Beethoven on the Musica Omnia label and have recently recorded both of the Faure Piano Quartets with Sally Pinkas.
